Cookies on Mortgage Notes
Last updated 18 April 2026.
The short version
Mortgage Notes uses one kind of cookie: anonymised Google Analytics, and only if you agreed on the banner. No advertising cookies. No profiling. No cookies set before you choose.
What we actually set, and when
If you accepted on the banner
Google Analytics 4 (property ID G-6J6X6KX2RW) sets the
following cookies in your browser:
| Cookie | Purpose | Lifespan |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Assigns a random visitor ID so GA can count unique visits. | 2 years |
_ga_G-6J6X6KX2RW | Holds session state for this specific property. | 2 years |
These cookies send anonymised data to Google: page URL, referrer, rough geographic region (country and city), broad device type, and session duration. IP addresses are truncated before storage. We don't use GA to build advertising audiences or to personalise content.
If you declined on the banner
Mortgage Notes sets no cookies at all. The Google Analytics library is still loaded (that's how Google Consent Mode works), but it's configured to not store anything and not set cookies until consent is given.
Before you choose
Your consent preference is remembered in your browser's
localStorage (not a cookie) under the key
mn-consent. This is essential storage so we know not to
show the banner again.
Change your mind
You can clear your choice and be asked again:
This clears the mn-consent value in localStorage. If you
had accepted, GA stops receiving data when you close this page until
you accept again. To fully remove any existing _ga
cookies, use your browser's clear-cookies feature for
mortgagenotes.co.uk.
Third-party cookies from embedded content
Some pages link to external websites (for example the Bank of England's rate page, HMRC, schema.org). If you click through, their cookies are theirs to declare — we don't control them. Mortgage Notes does not embed third-party widgets, pixels, social sharing buttons with tracking, comment systems, or advertising.
