Privacy policy

The short version

Mortgage Notes asks you once whether you're happy with Google Analytics. If you say yes, we get anonymised information about which pages people read. If you say no, we collect nothing at all. Either way, the site works exactly the same — there's no paywall, no sign-up, and no email capture.

What "analytics" means here

If you accept on the cookie banner, Google Analytics 4 (property G-6J6X6KX2RW) records:

  • Which page you're on, which page you came from, which page you go to next.
  • Rough geographic region (country and city, not address).
  • Broad device information (mobile/desktop, browser).
  • Session duration and whether you returned.

IP addresses are truncated before storage — Google can't identify you personally from what we collect. We don't build advertising audiences, don't enable cross-site tracking, and don't share data with any ad platform.

If you decline, the Google Analytics library still loads (that's how Consent Mode works) but no cookies are set and no data is sent. See the cookie policy for the specific cookies and how to reset your consent.

What we never collect

  • Your name, email address, or phone number (we don't ask).
  • Financial inputs into the calculators (everything stays in your browser, nothing sent).
  • Cross-site browsing history or advertising identifiers.
  • Anything that would let us identify you individually.

Essential technical storage

Your consent choice (accepted or declined) is stored in your browser's localStorage under mn-consent — not a cookie. This is essential so we don't ask again every visit. You can clear it on the cookie page.

Server-side

The site runs on Azure Static Web Apps. Azure keeps server access logs that typically include IP address and user-agent for about 30 days for security and diagnostic purposes. We don't use these logs to profile or identify visitors. Azure's full data-processing terms are published by Microsoft.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Analytics data is anonymised and aggregated, so it isn't personal data we hold about you in a form we can look up. There's nothing for us to return, correct, or delete on request. If you'd like your browser to stop sending analytics data from now on:

  • Visit the cookie policy and click "Reopen the cookie banner", then Decline.
  • Or clear cookies for mortgagenotes.co.uk in your browser settings.
  • Or use your browser's Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control setting — we respect these as a signal to default to declined.

Data controller and lawful basis

Mortgage Notes is the data controller for analytics data collected via this site. The lawful basis for processing is consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), captured via the cookie banner. Consent can be withdrawn at any time as described above.

Future changes

If we introduce anything that changes the data picture — different analytics vendor, optional newsletter, display advertising — we'll update this page with the date of change, re-prompt for consent where legally required, and flag the change in the footer for at least 30 days.
